O Ford Mustang completa seu 45º aniversário em 2009 trazendo como novidades, além das versões Bullitt e Shelby GT500KR, o modelo com teto panorâmico instalado de fábrica.
Esse último, além de ser mais barato que o conversível, preserva a versatilidade, o espaço e o controle de temperatura, proporcionados pelo cupê, conforme declarações da montadora. O teto panorâmico estará disponível como opcional tanto no Mustang V6 como no GT a partir do segundo semestre, por 1.995 dólares.
“O Mustang é um ícone da nossa linha de produtos e trabalhamos para que ele traga novidades importantes a cada ano”, diz Derrick Kuzak, vice-presidente de desenvolvimento de produto global da Ford. “O cenário automotivo está cada vez mais competitivo e atributos como o teto panorâmico ajudarão a diferenciar nosso produto dos competidores”, completa.
O Mustang responde hoje por praticamente a metade do segmento de carros esportivos na América e também é o modelo conversível mais vendido. Na criação da nova versão a Ford levou em conta que 62% dos compradores de carros esportivos mostraram o desejo de ter um teto solar no seu próximo veículo, segundo pesquisa da J.D. Power e Associados.
O teto panorâmico do Mustang é feito de vidro especial escurecido, que reduz em 50% tanto a incidência de raios infravermelhos como o tempo de resfriamento do veículo, além de evitar a deterioração dos revestimentos da cabine. Ele tem também uma cortina interna de acionamento manual para o controle da luminosidade e uma camada de vinil que melhora a acústica e o silêncio interno.
Outros dois modelos do Mustang V6 e GT serão lançados em 2008. Quarenta anos depois de estrear no cinema, o Mustang Bullitt volta às ruas com nova tecnologia. Inspirado no clássico original, ele oferece potência de 315 hp e torque de 45 kgfm e tem produção limitada, mantendo a tradição do modelo de oferecer desempenho acessível, com preço sugerido de US$31.075.
O Shelbt GT500KR foi feito para comemorar o 40º aniversário do Shelby Cobra GT500KR original, conhecido como “O Rei da Estrada”. Usando a estrutura do Shelby GT500, o KR conta com motor V8 de 5,4 litros, com tunagem de competição da Ford Racing e suspensão SVT. Tem potência estimada de 540 hp. O carro terá produção limitada de 1 mil unidades.
A Ford Racing também criou o novo Mustang FR500S, que, segundo a empresa, dá aos consumidores uma opção econômica de competir. Com motor V8 de 4,6 litros e 24 válvulas, ele será vendido por 75 mil dólares e vai estrear nas pistas da América do Norte em 2008, no Desafio Ford Mustang Racing da Miller Cup.
