O lendário Mustang, um dos esportivos mais populares do mundo, faz aniversário em 2009. Ele completará 45 anos de existência já que estreou na Feira Mundial de Nova York em 1964 com preço de US$ 2.300,00. Somente no primeiro ano de comercialização, a marca vendeu 417.000 unidades e hoje ele já está próximo a completar 9 milhões de unidades vendidas. Para comemorar todo esse sucesso, a Ford promete novidades para o modelo. Entre elas estão as versões Bullit e Shelby GT KR e um teto panorâmico instalado de fábrica.
A Ford optou por este teto para que o consumidor possa contar com uma planta visão e iluminação sem ter que desembolsar por um carro conversível. A opção deste teto, foi apresentada recentemente no Salão de Detroit e estará disponível como opcional tanto para o Mustang V6 como para o GT a partir do segundo semestre por US$ 1.995,00.
Segundo pesquisas realizadas pela Ford, a procura por teto solar no mercado americano aumentou em 200% desde 2003. O Mustang responde hoje pela metade do segmento de carros esportivos no país e o modelo mais vendido é o conversível. Além desses motivos, a Ford ainda identificou que 63% dos compradores de veículos esportivos desejam ter um teto solar no seu próximo carro.
O teto panorâmico do Mustang é feito de vidro especial escurecido, que reduz em 50% tanto a incidência de raios infravermelhos como o tempo de resfriamento do veículo, além de evitar a deterioração dos revestimentos da cabine. Ele tem também uma cortina interna de acionamento manual para o controle da luminosidade e uma camada de vinil que melhora a acústica.
O Mustang Bullitt traz para as ruas a tecnologia das pistas e foi inspirado no clássico original. Ele tem potência de 315 hp e produção limitada. O carro será oferecido por US$ 31.075,00. Já o Shelby GT 500KR é a versão comemorativa do 40º ano do Shelby Cobra, que ficou conhecido como “o rei da estrada”. O carro conta com um motor V8 5.4 superalimentado com tunagem de competição da Ford Racing e suspensão SVT. A potência estimada deste furacão é de 540 hp e sua produção também será limitada em 1000 unidades. Para quem gosta de colocar o seu Mustang nas pistas, a Ford Racing criou uma nova versão, o FR500S com motor V8 de 4,6 litros e 24 válvulas. Ele será vendido por US$ 75.000 e vai estrear nas pistas da América do Norte em 2008, no Desafio Ford Mustang Racing da Miller Cup.
